Two kinds of fellowship are distinguished:
- Research Fellowships
- Teaching Fellowships
In a Research Fellowship, a researcher (the CLARIAH Research Fellow) carries out a small research project based on an explicitly formulated research question by using data and/or software that are already part of the CLARIAH infrastructure.
In a Teaching Fellowship, a lecturer at a Dutch university (the CLARIAH Teaching Fellow) uses data and/or software that are part of the CLARIAH infrastructure in a BA, MA or RMA course for an explicitly identified category of students (e.g. defined in terms of presupposed background knowledge).
The call refers to an overview of the data and tools that qualify and is accompanied by introductory texts on these data and tools.
- Deadline for submissions: April 11, 2021, 23:59hrs CET (new date)
- Maximum funding per proposal: App. 12K€
We strongly recommend applicants to contact the persons mentioned in the tool and data overview when preparing an application. It will help you write a better application and the chances of it getting awarded funding are increased.
We also strongly recommend to make a submission in the Easychair system as soon as possible, even if your submission is not final yet. You can always update your submission before the submission deadline, and you do not want to have problems with this system right before the submission deadline. At that moment very likely many people are using the system, and that might lead to delays.

FAQ
Q: Can a person apply to both a research and teaching fellowship at the same time?
A: Yes, if it concerns two different applications. You cannot combine a research fellowship and a teaching fellowship in one application.
Q: Can I work on data that are not part of the CLARIAH infrastructure (yet)?
A: Yes, but some components of the CLARIAH infrastructure must play a role in your proposal, and you have to show which ones. For example you might try to use a CLARIAH tool or service on your own data.
Q: Can a person submit two different research proposals (with different ideas / institutes), for example?
A: Yes!
Q: Can the fellowship involve more than one person?
A: Yes, but with a maximum of 2. One of them will be the main responsible, and CLARIAH will only communicate with this person. If the two persons are employed at different organisations, the `toezeggingsbrief’ will have to be signed by both organisations and act a s akind of consortium agreement.
Q: Must I be employed by an eligible organization?
A: If you make an application you must either already be employed by an eligible organization, or you must indicate which eligible organization will employ you for this fellowship (support this with a signed letter from this organization). This organization then commits to the person month of in-kind contribution, and the applicant and the organization have to arrange how this in-kind contribution is materialized.
Q: Can a fellowship last longer than 6 months?
A: A fellowship normally last 6 months. However, if you justify in your application that a longer period is needed, this may be awarded. A concrete example of this is if you develop educational material in semester 1 that is actually used in a course held only in semester 2.
Q: Must I really use the 2017 NWO/VSNU tariffs? We are already in 2021!
A: Yes, NWO explicitly required the CLARIAH-PLUS project to use the tariffs of 2017, and the Fellow Call is part of the CLARIAH-PLUS.
Q: What amounts should I use for a student assistant?
A: Use the actually expected salary costs for the student assistant.
Q: How do I specify the budget of my proposal?
A: This Excel file can serve as an example for a specification of the budget of your proposal.
