Presentation
Clariah TechDay: DevOps, Media Suite & LaMachine
Summary
In the first presentation Maarten van Gompel discusses which problems arise and which solutions there are when distributing software and deploying 'software as a service' (SaaS). He will introduce some general concepts, such as packaging, containerisation, virtualisation and container orchestration, so that they can also be understood by people without a ‘DevOps' background. Subsequently, Martijn van de Donk will talk about DevOps for the Media Suite specifically. He will discuss why DevOps are important, what has been developed, what it delivers and what that means for portability, and conclude with the plans for the future.
In the second presentation Maarten talks about LaMachine; a solution developed in CLARIAH WP3to bring a subset of WP3 software and software services to end users and hosting centers in a flexible way. This solution makes it possible to bring tools to the data or to the individual researchers. Since LaMachine is essentially a small infrastructure on its own, we will discuss how it can fit within the larger CLARIAH infrastructure and what strengths, limitations and weaknesses there are in this approach.
